HARARE – A Harare-based manager has landed in court following allegations that she squandered over US$10 000 in company funds on the popular online betting game Aviator, commonly known as kandege.

Justine Ngoshi (39), who works as an area manager for Farm and City Private Limited, appeared before the courts last Friday facing charges of misappropriating US$10 200 that had been allocated for rental payments.

According to prosecutors, the offence occurred over a seven-month period from July 31 last year to February 28 this year. During that time, Ngoshi reportedly collected money meant to cover rent for the Belgravia branch, which was supposed to be paid to Sawyer and Mkushi Legal Practitioners.

However, the funds were allegedly never remitted. Instead, Ngoshi is accused of diverting the entire amount into Aviator, a high-risk online betting game known for its addictive nature and potential for heavy losses.

The court heard that the full US$10 200 was lost, with no recoveries made.

Ngoshi appeared before Harare provincial magistrate Michael Mafukidze and was remanded in custody. She is expected back in court for a bail hearing as the case continues to draw public interest.
