The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched investigations into a disturbing case of alleged child abuse captured in a viral video circulating on social media.

In a statement, the ZRP said the footage shows a woman assaulting a minor and forcing the child to touch a blazing gas stove in what authorities described as a serious and inhumane act.

Police have since appealed to members of the public for any information that may assist in identifying and locating the suspect captured in the video.

“The ZRP is appealing for information which may assist in the identification and subsequent arrest of the suspect,” the statement read.

Authorities also urged the relatives or guardians of the minor involved to come forward and report the matter at any nearest police station to aid ongoing investigations.

The police warned that the suspect, once apprehended, would face the full force of the law. Preliminary indications suggest that charges of attempted murder could be preferred against the accused.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many calling for swift action against the perpetrator and greater protection for children.

Investigations are ongoing.
